Tony Finau used social media to talk about his plans for 2024, as reports about his work with LIV Golf spread.
Last weekend at the Grant Thornton Invitational, Tony Finau teamed up with Nelly Korda. However, reports spread across South Florida that he was connected with LIV Golf.
Finau even talked about these rumors with The Palm Beach Post.
Finnau said, “Right now I don’t have anything to say.”
“Nothing has been said. So far, I haven’t let anything soak in other than playing.”
After that, the Utahn tied for fourth with Korda, three strokes behind the Australian team of Jason Day and Lydia Ko. Finau was the subject of many news stories and social media chatter, but he was able to drown out the noise and play well.
Then, on Monday, he went on social media to talk about his plans for the future and put an end to these reports.
“The 2023 season is over!” Finau put pen to paper.
“I’m excited about 2024 and can’t wait to play on the PGA Tour for the 10th time!” As well as being excited to defend in both Mexico and Houston! Thanks to my partners for always being there for me. Thanks to all of our friends for all the love they have shown us. We’ll see you in Maui!”
Under the post, he added the phrase “#imnotleaving.”
Finau will not join the LIV Golf tour, which is backed by Saudi Arabia, after all. He has won six times on the PGA Tour. He decided to stay on the tour just a few days after Jon Rahm left for LIV Golf. A Signature Event backer cancelled its deal with the PGA Tour just a few days before he made his choice.
Finau was said to be joining Rahm’s LIV Golf team in some stories, but that did not happen.
Finau will instead play on the PGA Tour all through 2024, where he hopes to win more tournaments and maybe even his first major title. He will also continue to have a lot of support from golf fans, since his smile and friendly nature make most people like him.
As things stood, though, the PGA Tour needed a win in this new war with LIV Golf, and Finau gave the officials in Ponta Vedra Beach, Florida, one.
