Next week is a rare off-week for the PGA Tour. This means that the best golf in the world could be played in Edmond, Oklahoma, a neighborhood of Oklahoma City, on October 26 and 27 at the Oak Tree National Pro-Scratch Invitational, where the prize pool is $30,000.

Where else can you see World No. 4? As FedEx Cup winner, Viktor Hovland won $18 million. Will he play in a two-day tournament for a $12,500 first prize?

The former Oklahoma State golfer, who still lives in Stillwater, will play at the Pete Dye course for the first time since the Ryder Cup. He will be paired with Ian Davis, who is also a former Oklahoma State golfer and the 2022 Oklahoma Golf Association State Amateur Champion.

This season, Hovland won the Memorial, the BMW Championship, and the Tour Championship. He is a member of Oak Tree National, and according to Golf Oklahoma, his trophies from those three wins are on show in the OTN lounge right now. The other players in the tournament are PGA Tour members Taylor Moore, Austin Eckroat, Max McGreevy, Robert Streb, and Sam Stevens, as well as Kevin Dougherty, Chris Gotterup, and Scott Gutschewski, who are new to the PGA Tour in 2024. So, he and his buddy better bring their “A game.”

There will also be LIV Golf players, such as Charles Howell III, Peter Uihlein, and Matthew Wolff, who are all former Cowboys. One thing that will be missing is: Talor Gooch, a member who won the LIV Season long points race last week and got a $18 million extra check, can’t play because he has another commitment. He has won this event three times before.

The Korn Ferry Tour is made up of Quade Cummins, Logan McAllister, Josh Creel, Rhein Gibson, Tom Whitney, and Michael Gellerman. Other pros with ties to Oklahoma and who are working their way up the ranks are also likely to play. They are Zach Bauchou, Jonathan Brightwell, Blaine Hale, Matt Mabry, Tyson Reeder, Charlie Saxon, and Jared Strathe.

As the formal head of the competition, Ryan Munson helped put together the field. He told Golf Oklahoma that it was “by far the best field” in the event’s history, which goes back to 2010.

People can’t watch the event, and it should really look for a TV or streaming partner. Calling out to the Golf Channel!
