Team USA is getting ready to show off its best athletes at the 2020 Olympics in Paris. A rumored “superstar cast” is coming together week by week. After the US didn’t do well at the recent FIBA World Cup, losing to Canada, Germany, and Lithuania and failing to finish on the podium, fans and the media were very critical. However, this was quickly replaced by a huge sense of excitement, as Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James was said to be committed to leading a star-studded team at the Olympics in 2024.
Along with the King’s interest, it was first said that future Hall of Famers Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry would be joining LeBron on the world stage. A few weeks later, during NBA media day, all three players confirmed that the rumours were true.
Team USA makes a promise
Since those three players said they would be wearing the red, white, and blue next year, Team USA’s team has slowly been coming together. A lot of big names have also said they want to join.
At this point, these players have all said they want to go to the Olympics: DeMar DeRozan, Bradley Beal, Donovan Mitchell, Jaylen Brown, Julius Randle, Zach LaVine, Kawhi Leonard, Aaron Gordon, Fred VanVleet, Brook Lopez, and De’Aaron Fox.
Even though there is a lot of ability to choose from, not all of those names will be on the 12-man list. The program’s leadership will have to make some tough choices when putting together the team.
He decides to play for the United States.
People were talking a lot about the frontcourt position. But last week, the United States got a huge boost when the current NBA MVP, Joel Embiid, decided to play for the US in international games even though he could have played for Cameroon or France.
Aside from Embiid, it was recently said that Managing Director Grant Hill is also very interested in getting defence expert Jrue Holiday to join the team. Lots of people said that Holiday, not Durant, was Team USA’s most important player when they won gold at the Tokyo Olympics, and Hill is one of many people who think his skills will make a difference.
No one knows for sure if Holiday will go to Paris next year, but it’s clear that the US is sending its best athletes to recover its position as the world’s best country.
