The start of the Cal-USC game on Saturday in Berkeley was pushed back because of a protest where fans locked arms in the middle of the field.
People think the protest has something to do with Prof. Ivonne del Valle being suspended by the school.
KQED talked about why the professor was banned:
A rising number of UC Berkeley students have been protesting for months, calling for the return of a banned professor of Spanish and Portuguese to school. They’ve talked about how important Ivonne del Valle has been to them as a guide and as a top scholar at a school with few Latinx teachers.
Emily Chamale, a second-year UC Berkeley student, said at a protest last month, “Professor del Valle isn’t just any professor; she’s the world’s foremost authority on colonial studies.”
“I can’t help but wonder what the future holds for the rest of us if someone as respected as her is going through these things at Berkeley.”
KQED got records that show what happened that made people suspend del Valle, which is not good. The university found that del Valle had repeatedly harassed, stalked, and retaliated against Joshua Clover, an English and Comparative Literature professor at UC Davis.
He also broke orders not to contact Clover, which were looked into over three years, from 2018 to 2022.
