Amy Olson’s qualification for the Women’s U.S. Open on Monday was a big deal for more than one reason. The player announced that she and her husband are expecting their first child in September, two months after the major at Pebble Beach in July.

Olson told the Minnesota Golf Association, “I’ll be seven months pregnant at the U.S. Open.” “Because it’s Pebble, I wanted a shot at it. This is my last event before the baby comes, so it’s a good way to go out.I’ve always enjoyed watching the U.S. Open. They always set up a fair but hard race. Most of the time, it’s not unusual: hit it straight, hit it far, and putt a lot of greens twice. That has usually been good for my style of game.”

The American golfer qualified for the major by scoring a bogey-free 66 in her second round to win by two strokes at the USGA’s 36-hole qualifier at Somerset Country Club in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, with a score of six-under 138.

Olson had a great round on Monday afternoon. He made three birdies on both the front and back nines, which helped him finish ahead of Bailey Tardy.

Olson has played in 190 tournaments on the LPGA Tour, but she has never won one. She has placed in the top 10 13 times, though.

The 30-year-old had a great college career, winning a record 20 NCAA events. He also has good memories of the U.S. Open, where he tied for second in 2020.

And Olson said that the fact that her last event would be at Pebble Beach, a famous course, was a big motivation.

“I’ve always had to take my life one year at a time because I’ve never had status for more than a year,” Olson said. “I’ll do the same thing after the baby comes, but I’m not really sure which way to go. “A lot is going to change in my life.”I’ll do everything I can to stay healthy and do the best I can in Pebble.

Olson said she is already making plans for the big tournament later this year. She sent a text message to the USGA asking for “PB&Js with peanut butter on both sides” and posted it on Twitter.

This year’s first round of the U.S. Open starts on Thursday, July 6 and goes until Sunday, July 9.
