Andrea Evans, who was best known for her parts on the soap operas “One Life to Live,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and “Passions,” has died. She turned 66.
Evans died on Sunday at her home in Pasadena, California, after a long fight with breast cancer, her agent Nick Leicht told USA TODAY. In a statement, Leicht said, “She was such a great talent and a joy to work with.”
Evans’s husband, Stephen Rodriguez, told USA TODAY that she was a “remarkable person” who was loved by everyone who knew her. Her unwavering strength, positive attitude, and strong spirit gave us hope every step of the way as she bravely fought this relentless cancer.
Kylie Rodriguez, Evans’s daughter, said in a statement, “At only 19, my world has been changed forever, and words can’t express how sad I am.”
“Her lively spirit, contagious laughter, and boundless love of life made an impression on everyone who was lucky enough to know her,” she said. “During her battle with cancer, my mom showed incredible strength… Even though it hurt and I didn’t know what would happen, she taught me that I could find joy even when things were bad. We stayed together until the end.”
In 1978, NBC’s drama “The Awakening Land” was Evans’s first time on TV. She played Fay Morrison Wheeler.
In 1979, Evans got the part of Victoria Lord’s (Erika Slezak) sister Tina Clayton, who became Tina Lord, on the ABC program “One Life to Live.” Evans’ IMDb page says that she played the part many times over the years, with the last time being in 2011.
Evans’s position as a soap opera star was confirmed by her parts on “The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and “Passions.” Evans played Patty Williams Abbott on “The Young and the Restless” from 1983 to 1984 and Tawny Moore on “The Bold and the Beautiful” from 1999 to 2000 and again from 2010 to 2011.
According to her IMDb page, Evans played Rebecca Hotchkiss on the NBC show “Passions” from 2000 to 2008. She was in over 600 episodes of the show.
Throughout her career, Evans was nominated for two Daytime Emmys. She was nominated for outstanding newcomer in a drama series (“One Life to Live”) in 1988 and for outstanding actor in a new ways drama series (“DeVanity”) in 2015.
Her husband said, “She dealt with the problems with ease, resiliency, and a strong love for life… She was a wonderful mother and wife. She was my STRENGTH. Andrea died of cancer, but it didn’t take away her energy. That spirit is still alive and well, and it lives on in all of us whom she touched.
“Even though my mother is no longer here in person, her love and spirit will live on forever,” said her daughter. “The things she taught me about being strong, being kind, and loving will help me get through the hard times ahead.”
