On the HBO show “Euphoria,” Angus Cloud played the drug dealer Fezco “Fez” O’Neill. On Monday, he died in Oakland, California. He turned 25.
The Oakland Fire Department said that they were called to a medical emergency at about 11:30 a.m., but the person was “already dead.” The fire department said they didn’t know what caused the death. The Oakland Police Department stated that it is still a “active death investigation.”
In a statement, Cloud’s family said, “It was with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to an amazing person today.” “Angus was important to all of us in so many ways. He was an artist, a friend, a brother, and a son. Last week, he put his father to rest, and he had a hard time dealing with this loss. The only thing that makes us feel better is that Angus is back with his dad, who was his best friend. Angus was open about his struggles with mental health, and we hope that his death will serve as a lesson to others that they are not alone and shouldn’t fight this alone in quiet.
“We hope that everyone will remember him for his sense of humor, his laughter, and his love for everyone,” the statement said. We ask for privacy right now because we are still coming to terms with this terrible loss.”
“Euphoria,” an Emmy-winning teen thriller on HBO, made Cloud famous when he played Fez. He played a major role in the first two seasons of the show. Other movies in which he acted were “North Hollywood” in 2021 and “The Line” in 2023.
He just started working with Melissa Berrera in a new horror movie at Universal Pictures. “Scream 6” directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are behind the film. Cloud also appeared in music videos like “All Three” by Noah Cyrus, “Cigarettes” by Juice WRLD, and “Miamiii” by Becky G and Karol G.
Cloud was honored at Variety’s annual Power of Young Hollywood event last year, where he talked about how he was picked up off the street to be in “Euphoria.” Cloud’s first starring job was as Fez. “I was with some friends,” he explained. “We weren’t doing anything.”
“It does worry me,” Cloud said, “when people say things like, ‘It must be so easy! You can go in and be who you are.’ I say, “Why don’t you just go do that?” It isn’t that easy. I gave the character a lot. You can think anything you want. It doesn’t concern me at all.”
Casting director Jennifer Venditti for “Euphoria” also said, “People think, ‘Oh, he just shows up. He’s just a lazy, high guy.’ Not enough credit is given to Angus.”
Cloud was a fan favorite on “Euphoria,” but the third season hasn’t started filming yet.
HBO said in a statement that they were very sad to hear that Angus Cloud had died. “He had a lot of skills and was loved by everyone at HBO and Euphoria. During this hard time, we send our deepest sorrow to his friends and family.”
Born Conor Angus Cloud Hickey, he went to Oakland School of the Arts with his “Euphoria” co-star Zendaya. He was cast in “Euphoria” while working at a Brooklyn restaurant.
