Arch Manning signed with the Texas Longhorns as the top high school football prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, but he hasn’t played a single action for the Longhorns yet this year. Quinn Ewers’ shoulder injury this week, however, raised the possibility that he may receive his first opportunity to play for the Longhorns, but it doesn’t seem that will be the case.
In light of Quinn Ewers’ absence, Steve Sarkisian said during his press conference on Monday that both Maalik Murphy and Arch Manning would practice with the first team this week. However, it is pretty obvious that Murphy is currently regarded as being ahead of Manning as Sarkisian said that Murphy would start “if the game was played today.”
Maalik would kick off the game if it were being played right now, according to Sarkisian during his news conference, as reported by Inside Texas. Once again, Arch will be prepared to move.
Manning, who was regarded as the top overall prospect in the nation when he graduated from high school, has yet to play for the Longhorns but has made an impression in practice. Some had anticipated that Manning would compete for the starting position as a true freshman, but in a cruel twist of fate, it seems that he has never risen beyond third on the team’s depth chart.
Manning still has a chance to get playing time versus BYU if he performs well enough in practice this week, but it’s fairly obvious that Murphy is now in front of Manning.
