WHAT CAME ABOUT?

Lalas said that the team needs more “ruthlessness, direction, and identity” while they are rebuilding.

WHAT LALAS ALEXI SAID

“I thought it was a bad performance and a good result,” he wrote on social media site X. The #USWNT is still changing and doesn’t have a clear character, direction, or the will to be brutal. “However, I believe that winning is much better than losing.”

THE LARGER PICTURE

During the CONCACAF W Gold Cup, the USWNT won five of their six games. Their only loss was to Mexico in the group stage. During the match, they were exposed, and their straight North American rivals won every part of it. Lalas says that all of the things that need to be fixed were probably brought to light in that event.

But they were strong, and they came back to beat Mexico in the semi-finals and then Brazil in the final, shocking everyone.
