The final of the Charleston Open 2024 took place on Sunday, April 7. Daria Kasatkina lost badly to Danielle Collins.
Collins had the lead from the very first game, so Kasatkina couldn’t get any control over the match. In the first service game of the match, Kasatkina was broken. She lost the first set after losing her service again in the eighth game.
Collins took a 5-0 lead in the next set, which hurt her even more. She only won one game that day before her opponent beat her 6-2, 6-1 in 79 minutes.
Former Charleston Open winner Kasatkina accepted her runner-up trophy after losing. Her speech made the crowd laugh, and she joked with Danielle Collins that she wouldn’t miss her when she retired.

“That could be a long time, since I’ve been waiting seven years for this.” I had no idea how to start or end a good speech in 2017. I was too young at the time. First, of course, tell Danielle good job! “I’d like to say I’ll miss you on tour, but I’m not sure after this match,” the runner-up said.
On the other hand, Kasatkina praised the American, saying:
“To be honest, I’m going to miss you because you’re such a character. Your personality is great, and I think tennis will lose a lot without you.” So enjoy this moment. You’re playing great, and you know everything. Good job! Have fun!”
With her loss in the Charleston Open final, Kasatkina loses the head-to-head lead she had over Danielle Collins
Since Daria Kasatkina lost the final of the Charleston Open 2024, she no longer has a head-to-head edge over Danielle Collins. The last time they played, she beat Collins 2-1, so she was ahead going into the top match.
In their first match, Kasatkina beat Collins at the 2018 Italian Open. She beat him 6-2, 6-3 in the Round of 32 match. After three years, they played each other again in the Melbourne Summer Set 1, a makeshift WTA 250 event, and Kasatkina won again.
The event was set up so that players who were going to the Australian Open could get some practice in since the usual lead-up tournaments, like the Brisbane International and the Hobart International, had to be canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Danielle Collins beat Daria Kasatkina for the first time a few months after their match in Melbourne. As the winner of her first WTA 500 title, she beat the Russian in the final of the Silicon Valley Classic. At the Charleston Open on Sunday, she evened the match between the two of them at 2-2.
