On Monday, Donald Trump won a big win around the world.
The former president won a court case that let him use his name at several golf clubs in Scotland.
Scottish Legal News says that the current frontrunner for the Republican nomination in 2024 has won the right to use the name “Trump” for a number of services related to his golf courses at Turnberry and Menie.
The ask didn’t come right away, though.
The news story says that German investor Frank Lindner questioned Trump’s right to use the trademark only in Europe. Lidner said it should be taken away because of the rights and because it hadn’t been used for five years.
The Intellectual Property Office of the European Union (EUIPO) had to decide in Trump’s favor.
“The owner has shown that they have used the mark in connection with the services in question for a long enough time.” The group said in a statement, “It has not filed any accounting evidence, but there is information about how hotels are run, including reviews from customers that go back a long time.”
“There are also positive reviews in other publications, as well as many awards and honors given over many years.” Because of this, the evidence presented is enough to show how widely the contested trademark has been used. So, the application for withdrawal has to be turned down because it is not valid.
