Sergio Perez, a Formula 1 driver for Red Bull, said that he tried to change the way the team’s new RB19 car was made so that it would fit his driving style better. Perez replaced Alex Albon on the Red Bull team for the 2021 season. Like his predecessors, he had trouble keeping up with teammate Max Verstappen and getting the most out of the team’s equipment.
In 2022, when new rules about ground effect were put in place, Perez got off to a good start. He got pole position in Saudi Arabia and won the Monaco Grand Prix, which was a memorable win. At the same time, Red Bull gave him a new two-year contract that will last until 2024.
But as Red Bull kept reducing the car’s weight, Verstappen was able to fine-tune the machine to his preferred set-up, which led to faster lap times. Perez, on the other hand, said that as the car got better, he felt less comfortable with it than he did at the beginning of the season.
Even though Perez had a strong finish to the 2022 season, he lost the race for second place in the driver’s championship to Charles Leclerc of Ferrari. At the launch of the Red Bull RB19, the Mexican driver was asked if he has been able to fix the problems he had last year.
He said back:
“yes, for sure. We’re going to work on certain things.”
” We think that the car will be better already. I’ve been pushing the team in one direction, and we think that’s where we’re going ” But we’ll see. Once we get the car, we’ll have to get used to it and try to get the most out of it.”
Perez took responsibility for some of the problems he had during the 2022 season and said that by the end of the year, his side of the garage had learned from the mistakes they had made with the way the car was set up.
“I think we sometimes went in the wrong direction with the set-up, and that’s something we need to learn from our mistakes.”
I think we figured out what we were doing with the car by the end of the season, which was very important.
“And I think we are going in the right direction with it.”
