Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness will no longer be working together.

In a statement given only to PEOPLE on Sept. 15, the couple said that they were ending their marriage on good terms.

“We’ve been lucky to be married for almost 30 years and have a great, loving relationship. Our journey is changing now, and we’ve chosen to go our different ways so we can each grow,” the message said. The couple also said that their family is their “highest priority,” and they asked for privacy as they go through “this transition in all of our lives.”

The star of “The Greatest Showman” met his future wife for the first time on the set of an Australian TV show called “Correlli.” He knew right away that she was the one.

“I knew right away, before Deb did. “I knew even when she tried to end things with me,” he said later. “It was kind of like she broke up with me. About three weeks into it. Thank God, I was able to talk her out of it. Deb really knows that I am hard to decide on things. I can count on one hand the number of times something has been that clear to me in my life, and when it does, it’s such a relief.”

Jackman added, “I just knew for sure, and I even knew when she was trying to come up with reasons to break up with me.”

After they got married in April 1996, they had a son named Oscar and a daughter named Ava.
