Gabe Vincent joined the Los Angeles Lakers as a free agent, and they gave him a 3-year deal worth a total of $33 million. Last season, the guard played for the Miami Heat and made it to the NBA Finals. This season, he will try to do the same thing with the Purple and Gold.
He was asked about his top five NBA players of all time in a recent interview. Vincent’s answer was good, but he left out a guy who many people think of as the best Laker ever.
“Man, you’re trying to mess things up for me. All-time Top 5, what, the Lakers, or just basketball?” When asked the question, Vincent said. He then gave his list, saying, “I’m going with Jordan, Bron, and Kob. All-time five. “Imma go Kareem. One of the first names that came to mind was Bill Russell. But I wasn’t sure if I should tell him because he’s a Celtic. I’m a bit worried, but… it could be Bill.”
It would be hard to argue with a list of Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Bill Russell as the top five players of all time. But some Lakers fans might be upset that he didn’t include Magic Johnson. Many people think Magic is the best Laker of all time, and almost all Lakers fans put him in their Top 5.
Gabe Vincent knows how he will help the Los Angeles Lakers already.
Even though his choices might get him in trouble with the fans, no one will care as long as he does well for the team. Vincent scored 12.7 points and 3.5 assists per game for the Heat in the playoffs, and he already has a plan for how he will fit in with his new team.
“There’s a little bit of everything on the Lakers. They’re big. They are good at sports. They are in charge. They received stars. I’m a little bit tough on defence, I can make plays, and I can make shots when they’re open. I think I showed in Miami that my game can be played in a lot of different ways. I could come in and try to help the team win in a number of ways, and it might be different every night.”
Once again, the Los Angeles Lakers will start the season with high hopes, and Gabe Vincent is likely to be the team’s starting point guard. If the 27-year-old can do it, fans might forget that he didn’t put Magic Johnson in his top five players of all time.
