Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, said that the fact that his team wants to win the treble will give Manchester United more reason to win the FA Cup final on Saturday.
On Saturday, two rival teams from the same area will meet for the first time in the Wembley showpiece. More than just a prize and bragging rights in the neighbourhood are at stake.
For City, which won the Premier League, a win could be the second part of a possible triple. Next week, they will play in the final of the Champions League.
United, on the other hand, will be eager to stop them because they are the only team to have won all three of those events in the same season. They did this in 1999.
The boss of City, Guardiola, said, “I could see that. It makes sense that it belongs to them. That’s how sports are.
“It’s normal to feel like, “That’s ours, and we don’t want anyone else to do it.” It’s easy to understand why. But this is a football game, and the best team will win.”
United manager Erik ten Hag, on the other hand, has tried to downplay the party-crashing part of his team’s job.
The Dutchman’s first season at Old Trafford was a good one. They won the Carabao Cup and got back into the Champions League.
Ten Hag said, “I know what the fans are thinking.”
“But what we really want is to win trophies and get Manchester United back on track. We have a chance to win a trophy, and we don’t want anything to get in the way.If it’s important to the people, it’s important to us too, so we’ll do whatever it takes to win the cup.”
Guardiola says he hasn’t even thought about the triple yet. He has spent the last week getting ready to play United. Next week, he will turn his attention to playing Inter Milan in Istanbul.
“These days, we never talked about Inter,” he said. “We’ll be off on Sunday, and then we’ll train for three or four days.”Then, to try to beat Inter, we’ll talk about what we think they are. We’ve got time. It takes a long time to get ready for a game from Saturday to Saturday.
“Both United and the FA Cup deserve our full focus and effort. All of the players know this for sure.”
Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, Ruben Dias, and Manuel Akanji, who all missed City’s game at Brentford last week, have all since returned to training. This means that City could have a fully fit team.
Guardiola has said that second-choice custodian Stefan Ortega will start, just like he has in all of this season’s local cup games.
Anthony Martial, a striker for United, can’t play because he hurt his leg, and Antony, a winger, is also a big question mark.
