Harry Kane of Tottenham wants to kick for the NFL.

Harry Kane, a striker for Tottenham Hotspur and leader of the England men’s national team, wants to one day trade in his international football boots for a chance to play in the NFL.

Kane told Jeremy Bergman of the NFL’s website that he wants to look into the possibility of becoming a placekicker. He said this during an interview on “Good Morning America” on Wednesday. “I know it’s going to be a lot of work. I don’t think I’ll just be able to walk up and start making field goals. It would take a lot of work and practice. But yeah, I would love to do it. I’ve been watching the NFL for about 10 years now, and I love it, so I’d love to try it out.

Kane has won the Premier League Golden Boot three times as the league’s top scorer for a season. He will turn 30 this summer and is still at the top of his game.

Sky Sports News and other news outlets have recently said that he might move to Manchester United in the summer. This is because Tottenham placed eighth in the league table and won’t be in the UEFA Champions League next season.

In July 2019, George Flood of the Evening Standard wrote about how Kane had said that kicking in the NFL was “something I definitely want to try in 10 or 12 years.” Kane has been known to make field goals during practice:

Hall of Fame kicker Morten Andersen told Flood about four years ago that Kane getting a full-time job with an NFL team is “not going to happen” because the England superstar has never tried field goals or other kicks during a game in front of “millions of people.”

Andersen also said that Kane trying to move to the NFL would be like an American football player “becoming a specialist free-kick taker for Man United.”

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk said on Wednesday that Kane will be up against “an endless supply of guys who have been kicking (or trying to kick) field goals” for a long time.

Kane’s deal with Tottenham ends at the end of next season, and if he wants to play in the NFL, he could do so as soon as the summer of 2029, when he will be 36 years old. Bergman said that some kickers have been able to play in the NFL until they were in their 40s, so the successful goal scorer shouldn’t give up on this dream yet, no matter what Andersen and Florio say.
