Reports say that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could try to get Nice center back Jean-Clair Todibo to replace Joel Matip this summer.
Matip has had a rough season generally, and he is now third in line behind Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk. Because of this, he is no longer needed at Anfield.
Now, Liverpool is getting ready to make an offer for Todibo, who is one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe right now.
Matip has only played 13 times in the Premier League this season. Even though he’s been hurt and missed a few games, his recent play leaves a lot to be disliked.
The 31-year-old has only played in two of the last eight league games for the Reds. Considering this, it wouldn’t be surprising if he was sold this summer.
Italy’s Francesco Balzani, who was quoted by RomaPress, said that Liverpool has “offered” Matip to Roma because they want to get rid of him. They will also ask for a fee of around €15 million (about £13.2 million) for his services.
Matip has definitely done a good job for Liverpool over the years. But it looks like he needs to go somewhere else now.
Todibo was linked with a move to Liverpool.
But if Liverpool does decide to get rid of Matip, they will have to find a good alternative.
Joe Gomez hasn’t played well either this season, so they might look to bring in more than one center-back.
As TEAMtalk has said before, Liverpool could try to sign Evan Ndicka, a defender for Eintracht Frankfurt. He will be a free agent at the end of the season and is thought to be a very good player.
But if Manchester City buys Napoli’s Kim Min-jae this summer, the Italian club could stop Liverpool from signing Ndicka. It’s clear that nothing is for sure yet.
Now, French news site L’Equipe says that the Reds have become more interested in Nice defender Todibo.
But they say that Manchester United and Newcastle United are also trying to sign him, so there is a lot of competition for his services.
Along with the three Premier League teams, Inter Milan and Napoli are also thought to have already talked to Todibo’s group.
Given how much interest there is, Liverpool will have to put their money where their mouth is to make a deal happen. L’Equipe says that Nice wants €40 million (about £35.2 million) for his services.
