Lionel Messi will play in the MLS for the first time later this month. He chose Inter Miami over a return with Barcelona. President Joan Laporta recently talked about how the club hero decided to take his skills across the pond instead of back to where it all began. He made it clear that Barca is happy for the Argentine and even said a deal was ready for Messi.

Via Mundo Deportivo:

“We get along well with Messi, but we haven’t talked to Leo since he chose to join Inter Miami. We hope the best for him.”

“His contract was ready, but we couldn’t move forward. He will always live in Barcelona.”

Messi said that he really wanted to play for Barcelona again, but after what happened to him two summers ago, the 35-year-old didn’t want to go through that again. Too many things were not clear.

Messi is now going to the MLS, where he will be the face of the league. The winner of the World Cup in 2022 will not only make around $50 million per season, but he will also get other perks and deals.

And let’s be honest. In Europe, Lionel Messi has nothing left to show. Even though his time at PSG didn’t go as planned, Messi won a lot of titles in LaLiga, a lot of titles in the Champions League, and finally won the World Cup with Argentina in December.

It’s time for a new adventure, and Miami is a great place to start. No matter what, Barcelona will always be special to him, and he feels the same way.
