With two goals for France on Friday (October 13), Kylian Mbappe, a star player for Paris Saint-Germain, has scored more goals than both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi combined.
Mbappe scored both goals in France’s 2-1 win over the Netherlands in Amsterdam in a UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier. Before that, he hadn’t scored in four games with PSG in all tournaments. With two goals, the 24-year-old crossed the famous Michel Platini into fourth place as France’s all-time top scorer.
Kylian Mbappe has scored 42 goals for his country in 72 games. He is 24 years old and has scored 42 goals so far. The record was broken by Messi in his 89th game for Argentina, when he was 27 years old. Ronaldo, meanwhile, scored his 42nd goal for Portugal in his 106th game. He is 28 years old.
But Mbappe isn’t the youngest or the fastest player to get to the top in recent history. Neymar, who used to play for PSG with him, scored 42 goals for Brazil in just 59 games, when he was 22 years old.
With his two goals against the Oranje, Mbappe is now only four goals behind Olivier Giroud (54), Thierry Henry (51), and Antoine Griezmann (44).
France star Kylian Mbappe has had a good season for PSG, hitting eight goals in nine games across all tournaments. He is still perfect. But before the game against the Netherlands on Friday, the Frenchman had not scored in a long time for either his club or his country.
But he scored again, this time in the seventh and 53rd minutes, and Mbappe won his sixth straight game as leader of Les Bleus. The two-time world winners have scored 13 goals in this time, with their leader scoring six of them and setting up two more.
These are the three teams that have already secured their spots in the European Championship finals next year in Germany. The other two are Portugal and Belgium. After failing to score in Euro 2020, Mbappe will now try to get off to a good start in the European tournament.
