Lionel Messi has apologized to Paris St. Germain in public for going to Saudi Arabia without permission earlier this week.

The leaders of Ligue 1 are said to have fined and banned the Argentinian after he went to a Middle Eastern country to promote his team without permission.

The 35-year-old is a representative for the Saudi Tourism Authority and was seen in Riyadh on Monday, a day after his team lost to Lorient in a surprising game.

I’m sorry to everyone on my team and to the club. I really thought that after the game we would be able to go home.

Messi says he had to go on the trip because of a contract. He had canceled it before and thought he had a day off.

The issue has shown that the World Cup winner’s relationship with PSG seems to be getting worse. Since then, there have been rumors that he will leave the club in the summer.

Messi said in an Instagram video, “I wanted to make this video because of all that is going on.”First, I’d like to apologize to my teammates and the club. I really thought we’d be free after the game, like we had been in the weeks before. “I had planned this trip to Saudi Arabia, which I had to cancel before, but I couldn’t this time. I’m sorry again, and the club can decide what to do with me. Best wishes.”

Messi, who has won the Ballon d’Or seven times, joined PSG in a big way two years ago, when Barcelona was having a hard time paying its bills.

He has been mentioned with a return to the Nou Camp, but most people think that is unlikely because the LaLiga leaders don’t have enough money. People say that Saudi Arabia and the United States are also possible places.
