• Recently, there has been more talk that Lionel Messi could return to FC Barcelona after less than two years at Paris Saint-Germain.

•Jorge Messi’s father is said to have met with Barca president Joan Laporte last week.

•A former PSG star called Messi a “failure,” and his deal with the French club will end in June 2023.

Lionel Messi’s father added to rumours that the world’s best soccer player, who spent the last two years with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, could soon return to FC Barcelona.

Jorge Messi met with Barca’s president Joan Laporte last week, according to Sport, a Spanish newspaper that got its information from Catalunya Radio.

Spanish news sources say that Laporte has been open to Messi coming back to Barca for a long time. Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends on June 30, so there could be movement in Spain to make a deal happen.

Sport says that Laporte would have talked with Messi’s dad about his “possible future” at Barcelona.

The recent change comes at a time when Messi’s play at PSG has been closely watched.

French news station RMC Sport said that former PSG star Jerome Rothen said that Messi’s time in Paris has been a “failure.”

In his first season, Messi played 33 times in Ligue 1 and the UEFA Champions League. He scored 11 goals and set up 14 others. Compared to what he did at Barcelona, it wasn’t a very good first season.

In the current season, Messi has scored 15 goals and set up 16 others in 25 games in both competitions. This is more than he did last year.

Rothen is not impressed by anything.

“Since he got there, Lionel Messi has been a strange case,” Rothen told RMC.

“It’s hard to talk like that about a player who has had such a big impact on the history of football, but that’s the truth in terms of his investment and performance.”

Rothen said that Messi feels like he has no family at Barcelona. He also said that PSG advisor Luis Camps “must take responsibility” and “admit that Lionel Messi’s arrival wasn’t always a good thing and was a failure.”

Since Messi signed a two-year contract with PSG in August 2021, he is free to talk to other teams and leave Paris in the summer.

During his time at Barcelona, Messi scored an amazing 672 goals in 778 games. He also won 10 LaLiga titles, 4 Champions League trophies, and a lot of cup competitions.
