Malik Gant, who used to play safety for the New England Patriots, died in May. He was 25.

Gant died in Miami, Florida, on May 25. No information was given about his death, including what caused it.

Gant’s family said in a statement that the news was true. In it, they called Gant “a remarkable person whose kindness, charisma, and unwavering spirit touched the lives of many,” according to Mass Live.

In part of that message, it said, “It is with heavy hearts that we tell you that Malik Gant, a loved family member, has died. On May 25, 2023, the dead body of Malik was found in Miami, Florida. We can’t believe this terrible loss and are in a lot of pain.Malik was an amazing person whose kindness, charisma, and unwavering spirit changed the lives of many. He will be remembered as a loving son, a loved brother, a loyal grandson, a valuable teammate, and a close friend to many. We will always remember him in our hearts.”

Gant joined Marshall’s team as a walk-on, and by his second year, he was a starter. Before his junior year started, he was named to the preseason Conference USA All-Conference team.

Gant was not chosen in the 2019 NFL Draft, but the Patriots picked him up before the start of the season. He got hurt in August of that year and was put on Injured Reserve. He missed his whole rookie season. The Patriots then cut Gant in July of the next year.

Gant didn’t play in the NFL in 2020, but he signed with the Patriots a month before the 2021 season started. He played in at least two of the team’s three practice games that year before he was let go before the start of the regular season.
