After 10 years of trying, Manchester City has finally won the Champions League and made history by doing so. Rodri will go down in team history as the player who scored the important goal in the second half, and City can now say they are European winners.
City has finally won the Champions League trophy, giving Pep Guardiola the one prize he had been missing since he joined the English club.
Before the final, City was a heavy favorite, and many people thought that their quarterfinal game against Real Madrid was the real test. But Inter was a tough opponent, and on a different day, they could have won the tournament easily.
Manchester United won the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League in 1999. Since then, their biggest foes, City, have done the same thing. It’s been a great year, and they’ve won a huge amount of money as a result.
Inter will get $16.7 million for coming in second place, while City will get $21.5 million for winning the Champions League. But these prizes are in addition to the money that has already been won.
City won a total of $85.5 million from the game, and Inter came in second with $77.7 million. The total prize money for the UEFA Champions League is $1.98 billion, with each of the 32 teams in the group stage getting $450 million.
The other 55 percent is based on how well each team does in the competition. Teams get money for each win in the group stage, and the prizes get bigger as the teams go further in the competition. City finished first in their group, ahead of Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla, and FC Copenhagen, by winning four games.
Then, on their way to the final, they beat RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid. Inter finished second in its group, behind Bayern, with only three wins. However, it beat Barcelona and Viktoria Plzen to make it to the next round.
Then, on their way to Istanbul, they beat FC Porto, Benfica, and their biggest enemy, AC Milan. Bayern is the only team that has ever won the Champions League by winning all six games in its group. This means that they will get the most money possible in the 2020/21 season.
Both of this year’s finalists made a lot of money by making it to the biggest stage in European club football. This gave them a lot more money for the summer transfer market. Both teams will also be in the competition next season because of how they did in their local leagues. City won the Premier League, while Inter finished third in Serie A.
