The Indian cricket team is gearing up for what promises to be an action-packed Champions Trophy campaign.
Team India’s official Instagram account showcased headshots of cricket stars such as Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Mohammed Shami, all of them looking ready for battle in the team’s official ICC Champions Trophy jerseys.
India’s journey in the prestigious tournament kicks off with a match against Bangladesh on February 20, 2025 at Dubai. The team will follow up that game with an intense clash against arch-rivals Pakistan on February 23, before taking on New Zealand on March 2. However, due to the hybrid model adopted for the tournament, all of India’s matches will be played in Dubai instead of Pakistan.
A Big Blow: Bumrah’s Absence from the Squad
Unfortunately, Team India will be without its pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, who has been ruled out of the tournament due to a lower back injury. Bumrah, who has been a key player for India in the fast-bowling department, has been missing from action since January.
His injury occurred during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test series against Australia in Sydney. Bumrah was visibly uncomfortable during the first innings and subsequently underwent scans. Though he attempted to bat in the second innings, he was advised by Australian doctors to refrain from bowling for the rest of the match.
In his absence, Harshit Rana has been brought in as a replacement, and Varun Chakravarthy has also been added to the squad following his excellent performances against England in the recent home T20Is.
Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal Omitted
On a different note, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had been initially included in the squad, has been dropped from the playing XI and moved to the non-traveling reserves. The young opener failed to impress during his ODI debut against England, where he scored a modest 15 runs off 22 balls. His subsequent exclusion and Jaiswal’s placement in the reserves marks a significant shift in the squad’s strategy as India looks to finalize its best combination for the tournament.
Team India’s Final Squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025:
- Rohit Sharma (Captain)
- Shubman Gill (Vice-captain)
- Virat Kohli
- Shreyas Iyer
- KL Rahul (WK)
- Rishabh Pant (WK)

The Social Media Storm: India’s Champions Trophy Jersey with ‘Pakistan’ Imprint
But what’s catching everyone’s attention is the Pakistan imprint on India’s jersey. In adherence to ICC’s rules, which require all participating teams to maintain a unified look for the tournament, the design of the jerseys has sparked wild reactions across social media platforms.
Fans are buzzing about the unusual detail and are debating its significance. While some see it as a mark of unity and sportsmanship, others feel it’s an unexpected twist that adds intrigue to the upcoming matches.
As we approach February 20, the excitement is palpable, not just for India’s performance on the field but for the controversial design that has stirred emotions before a ball has even been bowled.
The Champions Trophy is one of the most anticipated events in international cricket, and with the added layer of this unique jersey design, it looks like India’s journey in 2025 will be one to remember.
Stay tuned as the action heats up and Team India prepares to face off against the best in the world, including their fierce rivals, Pakistan, in what promises to be a thrilling contest at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai!
