For the 2023 season, the LSU Tigers have long since given up on making the College Football Playoff. However, Brian Kelly’s team has been one of the best things about the year. Jayden Daniels, the quarterback for LSU, is clearly at the center of that. He should be on his way to New York before bowl season starts to accept the Heisman Trophy.
What will happen next with Daniels is still unknown. He may choose to enter the NFL Draft and miss LSU’s bowl game, or he may decide to play one more game with the Tigers.
However, LSU is no longer in the running for the CFP. What bowl game do you think the Tigers will play in? Let’s see what the most recent forecasts say.
Guesses for the LSU bowl: The Tigers are set to play in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
It’s possible that the LSU Tigers will play in the ReliaQuest Bowl to end their 2023 season. That game and the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl are the two most important games with SEC ties. However, Ole Miss is more likely to get into the Citrus Bowl because they are the higher-ranked team in the league this season.
These bowl picks agree that LSU will be in the ReliaQuest Bowl: Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach of ESPN; Brad Crawford of 247Sports; and Jerry Palm of CBS Sports. What these predictions don’t agree on is who the Tigers will play in that bowl game.
The ReliaQuest Bowl is linked to either the Big Ten, the ACC, or Notre Dame. On one side is the SEC. Palm at CBS Sports thinks the Tigers will play the NC State Wolfpack, while Bonagura at ESPN thinks they will play the Wisconsin Badgers. But Schlabach and Crawford both agree that LSU will play Notre Dame in this game.
ReliaQuest Bowl recent history
- 2022/23: Missisippi State 19, Illinois 10
- 2021/22: Arkansas 24, Penn State 10
- 2020/21: Ole Miss 26, Indiana 20
- 2019/20: Minnesota 31, Auburn 24
- 2018/19: Iowa 27, Mississippi State 22
The game that is now called the ReliaQuest Bowl used to be called the Outback Bowl. It has often been one of the more interesting bowl games. This bowl series has only had one game decided by more than 10 points in the last five games. The last three games have all been decided by one possession. Because of how well LSU’s defense has played and how strong their offense is, we could be in for another classic this year if the Tigers do go.
That was the last time LSU played in the Outback/ReliaQuest Bowl. They beat Iowa 21–14 that year. But that win was officially thrown out in 2023.
LSU bowl game recent history

- 2018/19: Fiesta Bowl, LSU 40, UCF 32

There was a lot of roster turnover at LSU after they won the national title in 2019–20, so they missed a bowl game the next year. After Ed Orgeron was fired, Brad Davis took over as coach of the Texas Bowl in 2021–22. In the last six years, Brian Kelly has both beaten and beaten LSU in bowl games.
