Patrick Mouratoglou has made a list of the five best ATP forehands of all time. Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Pete Sampras, and John Isner are all on the list.
The top teacher also worked with South American legends Fernando Gonzalez and Juan Martin Del Potro, and he broke down Del Potro’s famous forehand.
Mouratoglou is a coach at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France. He has worked with Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Coco Gauff, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Holger Rune, among other tennis stars, both current and former.
A video on Mouratoglou’s Instagram page showed him breaking down Del Potro’s powerful forehand, which won the US Open in 2009 and is a hero in Argentina.
Forehand rocket by Juan Martin del Potro was all about timing and accuracy. It was one of the most effective shots I’ve ever seen, Mouratoglou wrote in the post’s description. That’s why I put it in my top five all-time forehands in tennis.
He talked about his top five forehands and said that Nadal’s famous left-handed shot was the best of all time, followed by Gonzalez, Federer, Sampras, and Del Potro.
Mouratoglou said this about Del Potro’s special shot: “Juan Martin Del Potro had one of the best forehands in history.” The Argentinian’s forehand was very special and was set up big and high. It was huge, though, because he had such great timing.I don’t think I’ve ever seen him frame a forehand. I’ve only seen him hit this shot in the sweet spot of the racket head a few times. Juan Martin’s drive was very useful because it had both depth and speed.
“He was playing so flat that the ball didn’t bounce high, and it was very accurate. He could hit any zone.” His first serve was one of the best I’ve ever seen.
The five best forehands ever by Patrick Mouratoglou:
1. Rafael Nadal
2. Fernando Gonzalez
3. Roger Federer
4. Pete Sampras
5. Juan Martin del Potro
Mats Wilander, who has won seven Grand Slams, thinks that Carlos Alcaraz, who is ranked second in the world and has won two majors, has the best forehand of all time.
After Alcaraz beat Miomir Kecmanovic at the Australian Open last month, Wilander praised the 20-year-old Spaniard’s wide range of forehand shots.
The former world number one told Eurosport, “He’s got options, he’s got so many options.”
“With the forehand, he can go inside-out and inside-in, and he can drop-shot both ways.” He can also loop it up like Rafa Nadal. So I think you should stay away from his forehand or your day will be very, very long.
The speed is really amazing. There’s no better shot I’ve ever seen in terms of skill. Not as big and wavy as Rafa’s, but better than Novak Djokovic’s.
