The Football Association (FA) is looking into a claim that Raheem Sterling threw something back into the crowd during Chelsea’s Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur.

The event happened soon after Cole Palmer tied the game with a penalty for Chelsea in the first half. This was made possible by Cristian Romero’s red card for a charge on Enzo Fernandez.

Palmer celebrated the moment by putting his finger to his lips and making a noise that made the Tottenham fans quiet down. Sterling and the rest of his teammates joined in the celebrations.

A video from the field, which came from Chelsea’s own TikTok account, showed that a fan from Tottenham threw something at Palmer and it hit him in the leg. As the players spread out to start playing again, Sterling looked like he bent down to get the ball and throw it back into the crowd before quickly going back to his own half.

The 28-year-old helped Chelsea beat Manchester United 4-1 on Monday, in a game that had five goals ruled out and two red cards.

The FA has said that they are now looking into what happened to see if any action needs to be taken.

The FA banned Richarlison, a forward from Brazil, for his first game with Tottenham in 2022 because he threw a smoke bomb at Everton. He was also given a £25,000 fine.

Chelsea’s next game is this Sunday in the Premier League, when they play Manchester City.
