After two good forehands, the American got out of jail and held for 2-2. After a backhand winner in the ninth game, Djokovic held at deuce, making his opponent serve to stay in the match. Following a loose smash, Sebastian lost game points in the tenth game and had a chance to win the match.
Novak won after his opponent made a mistake with a forehand. He celebrated after more than three hours and got off to a great start to the season.
