Rickie Fowler has had a rough few months on the golf field.
Fowler had a rough fall, finishing T64 at the 78-man Zozo Championship and T17 at the 20-man Hero World Challenge. Things haven’t gotten better since then. The American finished 56th out of 59 players at The Sentry in 2024. He missed the cut at the American Express and tied for 47th place at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He also missed the cut at the WM Phoenix Open.
The only thing that stood out about his trip to TPC Scottsdale was the flashy clothes he wore.
After four starts, the six-time PGA Tour winner is ranked 183rd in scoring average, 180th in strokes gained off the tee, and 175th in strokes gained through putting. He is also ranked 178th in total strokes won. This season, Fowler’s stats don’t look good at all, which is a huge contrast to his strong 2022–23 season.
With 12 total strokes gained, Fowler was ranked 12th last season. He was also ranked seventh in strokes won via approach and 19th in putting average. He had a rough two years in a row, but he came back strong with 24 cuts, 18 top-25 places, and a win in 26 starts. A guy who looked like he was past his prime before put on a very consistent show of golf.
But in just a few months, stability has gone away. Fowler’s swing is a mess right now, and the new putter that helped him get back on track lost all of its heat. This is the worst score the 35-year-old has ever had on the PGA Tour when it comes to putting: 5.68 true strokes.
Fowler could lose his place in the golf world if he can’t get this train back on the tracks soon. He is going to play in The Genesis Invitational at Rivera Country Club this week.
When he doesn’t do well, his Official World Golf Ranking goes down. This can make it harder for him to prepare for major championships and signature events. The player with the most fans is getting closer to 40 than to 30, so he can’t let this slump get worse.
