Tennis star who received death threats after losing the US Open is retiring.

Death threats: Garcia hasn’t had as much success this season as she did two years ago, when she won the WTA Finals and made it to the semi-finals at the US Open. In 2024, she only has a 17-16 record, which means she is no longer ranked in the Top 20.

Garcia has had a shoulder issue that won’t go away for most of this year. A “toxic” attitude has also hurt the 30-year-old, she said.

“While competing, I’ve been pushing my shoulder to its limits and trying to heal, but it’s not working.” “Just give me more time to heal,” she wrote on social media.

“I need to restart my mind. Tennis is too much for me to handle all the time. I need to take a real vacation, spend time with my family and friends, and let myself breathe without the pressure of performance.

“This year, I had a bad attitude.” “I forgot how much fun it was to play tennis and became obsessed with rankings and wins,” she said. “The results I got didn’t match the goals I set or the hopes I had.”

It hurt, it was hard, and it felt like the work I put in was the same as before, but I wasn’t seeing results, and I couldn’t fight at the level I know I can. It’s been really hard to accept that.”

The worst of Garcia’s problems showed up at the US Open last month, where she lost in the first round. The French star talked about the criticism, hate, and death threats that came her way after the sad ending.

The harsh comments on the Internet seem to have hurt Garcia, who said that it had an effect on her game. “I’m exhausted from the anxiety, the panic attacks, the tears before matches,” she told me. “Sick and tired of missing family events and never having a real home to call my own.” I’m sick of living in a world where my worth is based on how I did last week, where I rank, or how many mistakes I made freely.

“I’ve let tennis take over my life for too long, going through the emotional highs and lows of every match.” I’m more than that, though. As a woman, I have beliefs, skills, interests, flaws, and strengths. I try my best, but I’m not perfect.

“Recently, I’ve felt too stressed out to perform on tour, with people watching my every move.” Because of my nervousness, I’ve been shutting down and feeling trapped on the court. “Winning doesn’t make me happy anymore; it just makes me glad it’s over.”

Finally, Garica said she would be taking a few weeks off to emotionally and physically recharge before starting to get ready for the 2025 season.

How long are tennis matches?

Tennis is one of my favourite sports to watch because you can’t tell what will happen next. A match that was supposed to end quickly can become an epic, but a match that looks like it’s closely matched can also end quickly. There are bad days for everyone, even the best tennis players. This is why it’s hard to say how long a tennis match lasts. A lot of matches are decided by the best of three sets, with a tie-break in each set if needed. However, men’s grand slam matches go all the way to the best of five sets, and sometimes there is no tie-break in the last set.
