As soon as the Apertura 2023 was over and Club América beat Tigres to win their 14th Liga MX title, people started thinking about the new season, which starts on January 12. Mexican soccer clubs have been busy in the trade market getting their teams ready for the 2024 Clausura.
Take a look at some of the biggest stars that will be at the 2024 Clausura.
Diego Gago (Chivas)
Veljko Paunovic, a Serbian coach, left his job at the Akron Stadium, and the Chivas board quickly hired Fernando Gago, an Argentine, as their new head coach. The former coach for Roma and Real Madrid will be coaching away from his home country of Argentina for the first time.
Diego Gabriel Fernández (Cruz Azul)
Many people were shocked when the Uruguayan shooter left the Pumas to join the Cruz Azul team, which has been struggling lately. The 29-year-old played 23 official games for the Pumas while on the college team, but only helped score nine goals.
Jose Juan Brunetta (Tigres)
In the 2024 Clausura, Tigres will try to go one step further and will keep looking for new players to add to their already strong team. The team from Santos Laguna has added Juan Brunetta, an Argentine who moved from Santos Laguna.
Francisco Fagúndez (Santos Laguna)
Santos Laguna recently announced that Franco Fagúndez, a 23-year-old Uruguayan, has joined the Liga MX team. He comes from Nacional de Montevideo, where he played football for three good seasons. This is Fagúndez’s first time playing football outside of Uruguay.
Francisco Micolta (Pachuca): Pachuca has decided to strengthen their defensive backline and has announced that they have signed the Ecuadorian Francisco Micolta. The South American starts working for Los Tuzos on January 1, 2024, when his contract with El Nacional in Ecuador ends.
Gonzalo Piovi (Cruz Azul): Cruz Azul wants to avoid another crushing defeat and has been one of the busiest Liga MX teams in the transfer market lately. Argentine Gonzalo Piovi joined the CDMX team from Racing Club de Avellaneda. The right back has been on loan to Gimnasia, Defensa y Justicia, and Colon. This is his first time playing abroad.
Piero Quispe (Pumas): In the Apertura, Tigres ended Pumas’s chances of winning the Liga MX title, which meant they were close to going back to the final. Peruvian Piero Quispe has already arrived in Mexico and is moving from Universitario to the university team in Mexico City. The central player, who was born in Lima, has already played three times for his country.
