Wyndham Hotel There were reports that Clark cheated at the recent Arnold Palmer Invitational, but Clark has not said anything about them. He said he wasn’t trying to hurt anyone, but he did say that what happened didn’t “look great.”
Clark has been one of the best golfers on the PGA Tour this year. The Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship were both worth second place to him. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was his win. But his success at the Arnold Palmer was overshadowed by claims that he cheated in the third round.
Clark was seen on TV in the thick Bay Hill rough on the 18th hole. He seemed to put his iron down on the ground and move the grass and ball. People quickly said that the U.S. Open winner had changed his lie in a way that was against the law.
Clark, though, says he’s not guilty. He told Fox News Digital, “It’s too bad because I didn’t mean to cheat or make my lie better.”
“They showed me the video when I got into the scoring tent. Before that, I had no idea what had happened.” When you watch the movie, you think, “Man, that doesn’t look good.” “I’m sorry it looks bad, but I didn’t mean to do anything bad.”

Rule 8.1b(4) says Clark could “lightly ground the club right in front of or right behind the ball.” With this rule in mind, the 30-year-old kept defending what he did.
“In my defence, you’re allowed to put your club down and see your lie,” he said. “It is what it is, and I hope it goes away in a few weeks.” Of course, I’ve never tried to cheat at golf, and I hope that’s not how people see me. I believe the camera was too close, making it look worse than it really was.
Not long after the event, Clark said the same thing: “I actually had no idea that that even happened.” It was said to me in the tent for scores. Gave me the video. That’s not what I was trying to do. I wasn’t trying to cheat or make my lie better. I put down my club without any thought.
“And it’s clear that they zoom in, which makes it look worse.” It was something we all talked about. Scottie and the people in charge of the rules didn’t see it move. That’s good that didn’t happen. Yeah, I didn’t know that until I got in.”
At Bay Hill, Clark lost to Scottie Scheffler, and he lost again a week later. Scheffler won the Players Championship last week, and the American player had a chance to tie him with a birdie putt on the last hole. However, his ball cruelly bounced off the rim, giving Scheffler another win.
Clark is behind Scheffler in the FedEx Cup standings; Scheffler is in great shape and is currently in first place.
