In the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich is in second place and is once again on track to make it to the Champions League. For the 2024–25 season, the Champions League will have a new structure. Instead of the usual group stage, there will be an expanded league phase.
There will be four more spots in the new league phase, with two set aside for each of the two European leagues with the highest UEFA coefficient ranks. When the group stage of the Champions League for this season is over, Germany is in first place and Italy is in second (SkySportsNews via @footitalia1).
As things stand, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern, VfB Stuttgart, RB Leipzig, and Borussia Dortmund would all be able to qualify for the Champions League from the Bundesliga. However, this is likely to change before the end of the season.
Union Berlin, one of the underdogs, participated in Europe’s top competition for the first time this year. Union failed in the Champions League, and they are having a hard time in the Bundesliga. However, Heidenheim is only seven points behind fifth place and could qualify for the Champions League after only one season in the Bundesliga.
The UEFA coefficient rankings can change, and it seems unlikely that the way English teams have played in the second half of the Champions League won’t move one of the Premier League teams into one of the two spots. Fans of the Bundesliga and Serie A, on the other hand, will be hope that their national teams stay at the top of the pile.
