There is a lot of trouble in the world, so how can you tell which countries are safe to visit? There is no such thing as a fully safe country. But some people have more success than others.
Who you are can affect what you do and see while you’re abroad. In some places, guys are safer than women. Some are good for the LGBT+ group, but others aren’t. And it can be even harder for Black people to get around.
The US ranks low when it comes to peace and safety
Recent travel warnings for the United States came from a number of countries, which isn’t surprising given how often news comes out.
The Global Peace Index (GPI) from 2022 was used by USA Today to talk about the most peaceful countries in the world. The United States came in 129th, just behind Azerbaijan and just above Brazil. Afghanistan came in last, as it has for many years in the GPI.
“Civil unrest [in the United States] continues to be the main cause of the deterioration,” GPI said. This was a reference to political murder and social unrest.
What are the safest countries to visit?
Based on what the GPI found, Travelers Worldwide made a list of some of the best countries. There are many things that are thought about, such as “crime, terrorism, political instability, weapons capabilities,” and more.
The article said, “The Global Peace Index shows pretty clearly which countries are the safest for travelers, but it’s not perfect. Some countries on the index are no longer as safe as they used to be because of recent wars and terrorism risks.
1. Iceland
Iceland, which is also called “Land of Ice and Fire,” is at the top of the list. It’s safe and quiet, and the Northern Lights are beautiful. If you are interested in those things, you should visit between September and April, when the nights are long and dark. Glaciers can be skied on, snowboarded on, and even climbed.
2. New Zealand
New Zealand is the next one. Travellers Worldwide said, “With a low-risk Level 1 from the U.S. Department of State, New Zealand is a haven for outdoor adventures and unique opportunities for urban exploration for all types of travellers.”
3. Ireland
Third is Ireland, which has green scenery, castle sites, and a food scene that is always changing. Almost everywhere you go, you’ll want to have your camera with you. Go to Dublin if you want to see a city. This is where well-known places like Dublin Castle and the Guinness Storehouse are found.
4. Austria
Austria comes in at number four. Travellers Worldwide said, “April and May are the best months to come for a trip.” Take a boat ride along the Danube River, step back in time at the Schnbrunn Palace, and watch a show at the Vienna Opera House. The U.S. Department of State tells people who are going to Austria to “use common sense.”
5. Portugal
Portugal is in fifth place. As Travel Noire has said before, the number of Black people living abroad is growing, and the African Lisbon Tour is a great way to learn about Black past in Lisbon. Some people compare the beach town of Comporta in the Algarve to the Hamptons because it is on the coast and has great food and beaches. If you watch your things and follow social rules, you’ll be fine.
