Tiger Woods makes a choice about The Players Championship, but things don’t go as planned.

Tiger Woods doesn’t seem to be going to The Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass this month after all. He seems to have changed his mind.

Fans were excited to see the golf star at the 50th Masters, which was a big deal because The Masters was coming up soon. He had to quit the Genesis Invitational last month after only 24 holes because he was sick, and the next event on the PGA Tour schedule looked like the most likely place for him to come back.

Back in December, Woods said he wanted to play in one event every month while he took care of his back and ankle. He also directly talked about the tournament when he talked about his plans for the 2024 season.

Since he didn’t play in the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which is still going on, Sawgrass seemed like the most likely place for him to play seriously before April 11, which is the first major of the year at Augusta. Not long ago, Steve Stricker, who played with Woods on the USA Ryder Cup team, made it sound like Woods might be at Sawgrass.

Steve Stricker told Golf Digest that he wanted to play a practice round with Tiger Woods and ask him if they could play together at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. “Well, I’ll see him next week at the Players, and I hope he’ll be there too. Maybe we’ll play a practice round together,” he said. “Sure, I’ll ask him.”

There are other PGA Tour games, like the Houston Open and Valero Texas Open, that happen before The Masters on April 11. The last time Woods said he’d play, it was at the Seminole Pro-Member. This week, he played again. But he has already said that The Players Championship is one he’s interested in.

“I believe that a tournament once a month would be ideal.” “I think that’s possible,” Woods said before his return in the Bahamas in December. “You would have to start with maybe at Genesis and then something in March near the Players.”As it stands now, the biggest events happen once a month. It gets ready for that to happen. I need to get ready for all of that now. This week seems like a big step in the right way.

After playing all 72 holes at the Hero World Challenge—his first event in 10 months since hurting his ankle at The Masters in April—Woods gave his fans good news by saying, “Yeah.” I believe I can get into the swing of things. With two weeks off to rest and heal and one week to build up, I don’t see any reason why I can’t get back into that rhythm. Getting in better shape is pretty much all it takes. I believe I’m close to getting better, but I need to work on my fitness.

When Woods isn’t in the tournament, there are still a lot of big names. Scottie Scheffler will try to protect his title. Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, and Rickie Fowler are some other past winners.
