The last time the Wanamaker Trophy was played for at Oak Hill, it was won by Jason Dufner. Dufner, on the other hand, won’t try to keep his title in Rochester.
The PGA of America said Friday that Dufner will not be playing in the PGA Championship. Dufner left without saying why.
This year, Dufner, who is 46, has played in 19 PGA Tour games, including this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson. In 11 of those tournaments, he didn’t make the cut. After a 71-74 at the Nelson, he is likely to miss the weekend as well. Since Dufner won the 2013 PGA Championship, he has played in the tournament every year. However, in his last five tournament tries, he has not made the cut.
Martin Kaymer is also dropping out of the PGA Championship. The two-time major winner, who won the PGA in 2010, is in Tulsa this week for a LIV Golf tournament. Kaymer also did not say why he was making this choice. Since 2018, Kaymer had not made it to the weekend of the PGA Championship.
In the last two days, former PGA champions Dufner, Kaymer, Vijay Singh, and Davis Love III have all pulled out of the tournament.
David Lingmerth and Callum Tarren are taking the place of Dufner and Kaymer. Now, Eric Cole is the first substitute. The winner of this week’s AT&T Byron Nelson still needs to fill one field spot.
