Sweden has announced a military aid package worth about $113 million to help Ukraine improve its air defenses as Russian threats get stronger. The US and Ukraine have agreed on a draft minerals deal. This is a big step toward getting the US to back Ukraine in its war with Russia. Sweden sent a package with modern air defense systems like the Robot 70 and Tridon Mk2 to help Ukraine fight off threats like missiles and drones.
Due to Russia’s increased military activities, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has stressed how important it is to help right away. The Tridon Mk2 shields against drones and other attacks, while the Robot 70 is a portable missile defense system made to deal with a variety of air dangers.
He wrote, “I am in Kyiv right now.” Our people and the people of Ukraine have been fighting for freedom and safety for three years now. We are saying today that 100 million euros will be given to help Ukraine’s air defenses. Our safety is also improved by making it easier for Ukraine to protect itself against Russian aggression.
The Swedish Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade, Benjamin Dousa, wrote that Ukraine is the government’s top foreign policy goal. So, for example, we are lowering the priority of bilateral aid to Burkina Faso and Mali because they back Russia. Instead, we are planning to spend SEK 1.1 billion more on civilian aid to Ukraine.
This help is part of Sweden’s larger $6.87 billion aid package to Ukraine, which includes military, humanitarian, and social aid. President Donald Trump has said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy will likely come to the U.S. to finish a draft mining deal.
The suggested deal calls for the creation of a Reconstruction Investment Fund. Ukraine would contribute some of the money it makes from minerals to this fund. I hear he’s coming on Friday,” Trump said. If he wants to, that’s fine with me. He also wants to sign it with me.
The goal of the deal is to help Ukraine become more safe and economically successful while also making sure that the U.S. gets back the money it has given to Ukraine so far. Trump said, “What we’re doing now is saying, ‘Look, we want to be safe.'” The American people are going to get their money back plus more.
