Week 7 Shake-Up: 49ers and Eagles Hold Strong in NFL Power Rankings.
Even though they lost, the 49ers and Eagles stay high in the NFL power rankings for Week 7.

Here are the NFL power rankings for Week 7 of the 2023 season (with the former number shown in brackets):

1. 49ers (1): It’s way too early to say that they were exposed by the league’s best defence. Especially since injured Pro Bowlers Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and Trent Williams were missing Sunday, you’d expect QB Brock Purdy to have his worst game as a professional. Depending on the injuries, this could be a long delay for the Niners, but it’s not likely to be one that puts them in serious danger.

2. Lions (3): There aren’t many teams like the Lions (3). If they win one more game, they’ll be 6-1 for the first time in Super Bowl history (since 1966). Even if a team is on a four-game winning streak, it can be risky to look too far ahead. But after Detroit’s Week 9 bye, there don’t seem to be many teams that will lose. What if their running backs get fit and wide receiver Jameson Williams keeps turning into the tool he was meant to be? Roar.

3. Chiefs (4): The Chiefs have four points. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes has played 100 NFL games and won 80 of them. It’s crazy. Twelve of his wins, or 15% of his total, have come against Denver. In Week 8, Kansas City will be going up against Denver again.

4. Eagles (2): It’s time to learn more about a team that got to 5-0 by riding an edge. But Philly couldn’t keep up with the Jets’ dance pit. Next, they have to try to keep up with Miami’s track team. However, maybe putting on the Kelly Green for “Sunday Night Football” will do the trick.

5. Bills (5): It’s clear that this team has trust problems because it’s won three laughers, including the Week 4 blowout of the Fins, but hasn’t been able to wake up in its other three games. Week 7 shouldn’t be too hard for New England, but then Buffalo will be watched closely for three weeks in a row during prime time.

6. Dolphins (6): This offence really is this good? Based on the numbers, both personally and as a whole, it looks like it will be one of the best seasons in league history. In fact, Miami’s offence is gaining more than 100 yards per game more than the second-ranked Eagles’. But teams like Philadelphia and Kansas City should give the Dolphins a good test in the next three weeks, like the one they failed at Buffalo in Week 4.

7. Jaguars (7):  This team just got back from two weeks in London and now has two more games away from Duval County. RB Jacksonville has won its last three games in a row, and Travis Etienne has rushed for 339 yards and four touchdowns.

8. Cowboys (8): Getting a win against the Chargers in Los Angeles, in front of a lot of Dallas fans, saved a bye week that was about to go badly, especially facing former offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and coming off of a loss in San Francisco. With his touchdown catch on Monday, WR Brandin Cooks has now hit the end zone with five NFL teams.

9. Steelers (9): This team has won three of its last four games after a bye week. WR Diontae Johnson is about to return to an offence that needs a boost.

10. Ravens (10): This team has only played two home games so far, but four of its next five games will be in Baltimore. Liked this fact? Lamar Jackson and Michael Vick are the only players who have run for at least 50 yards in 50 different games.

11. Browns (13): The Browns (13) have given up only 1,002 yards, which is the fewest through five games in 52 years. The Browns give up 200.4 yards a week on average, which is more than 60 less than Baltimore’s second-ranked defence.

12. Bengals (22): They got back to.500 and are now enjoying a much-needed bye week. But QB Joe Burrow, WR Tee Higgins, and the rest of the team should get some rest because they won’t play a team below.500 again until Week 15, when they play the Niners and Bills.

13. Rams (11): It’s no surprise that WR Puka Nacua’s production has dropped since Cooper Kupp came back, but he’s still made a nice place for himself in NFL history. It is a Super Bowl record for a man with only six games played to have 50 catches and 598 yards.

14. Seahawks (12): Even though they had two bad interceptions on Sunday, Geno Smith’s mistakes are about the same level as they were in 2022. His number of touchdowns is almost half as many as it used to be.

15. Jets (21): HC Robert Saleh said, “We’ve played a lot of quarterbacks.” I know we haven’t won every game, but we’ve made them all look bad.” This defence hasn’t let up more than 300 net passing yards since the end of the 2021 season, no matter how true that claim is. (And yes, it was to Tom Brady, who the Jets rarely made look bad.)

16. Texans (18): Two of their players have caught at least three touchdowns, which is the same number as it was all of Houston’s 2022 season. Their three turnovers are the fewest of any team.

17. Buccaneers (14): You can’t be last in the league with 3.0 yards per run if you don’t want quarterback Baker Mayfield to take too much of the offensive load.

18. Saints (15): The only player since the AFL and NFL merged in 1970 with more games with a pass attempt, run, and catch than New Orleans’ Taysom Hill (20). That player is Walter Payton (15).

19. Chargers (20): You could say they once again stole loss from the jaws of success. Now? Get back together quickly because the Bolts only have one week left and their last game is in Kansas City against the rested Chiefs. They really need that game.

20. Raiders (23): The Raiders are currently tied for first place in the AFC with 12 mistakes. If they win at Chicago on Sunday, they will be above.500, which isn’t bad at all for this team.

21. Packers (24): If they’re feeling refreshed after their bye, it might be time to go on a run since they don’t play an opponent with a winning record until Week 10.

22. Vikings (25): Another week, another important injury (LB) Marcus Davenport (ankle) for a team that is having trouble but doesn’t want to have a fire sale.

23. Commanders (27): Four of Washington’s next six games are against NFC East teams, including both of their games against the Giants. This could be a crucial time for the team’s season and maybe even for head coach Ron Rivera’s future after 2023.

24. Falcons (16): Is there a head coach whose facial reactions are more entertaining to watch than Arthur Smith? Smith might need to switch to quarterback Taylor Heinicke if he wants people to remember how great he is at calling plays instead of his frowns on the sidelines.

25. Titans (19): Tennessee’s season was over when quarterback Ryan Tannehill hurt his ankle. It came early this year.

26. Colts (17): Owner Jim Irsay says that quarterback Anthony Richardson’s shoulder injury will probably end his rookie season. Probably a loss that can’t be recovered from, unless RB Jonathan Taylor shows his 2021 form soon.

27. Giants (29): The Giants have had a pretty bad start. According to ESPN Stats & Info, they are only the fourth team since 1950 to not score an offensive touchdown in each of their first six games. New York’s offence hasn’t scored a touchdown since Week 3.

Broncos (28): From now until December, they’ll only leave Denver once. That might not be a good thing, since this 1-5 outfit is in style right now… Even so, if Sean Payton keeps trading players, at least the home fans will have new guys to boo.

29. Bears (26): Quarterback Justin Fields’ broken thumb could put this team back into slumber after two steps forward and one step back.

30. Cardinals (30): They’ve lost three games in a row by an average of 16.7 points each. After a month, it looks like the Cards are who we thought they were.

31. The Patriots (31): One of their many, many flaws? No team has less to learn (3). And no team has more drives that end without points (81.7%) than this one.

32. Panthers (32): Carolina hasn’t had a great season, but at least WR Adam Thielen keeps coming up big. Thielen is one of only two rookie players with more 100-yard receiving games than him (24). He is also one of only two with more double-digit receptions than anyone else (Wes Welker).
