Two new ads that played during Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday were part of a religious campaign that said, “Jesus gets us.”
One ad showed people from all walks of life getting their feet washed. Another person told watchers to see Jesus in their neighbors.
The program that began in March 2022 is still going strong with the new spots. After that, TV ads showed up during Super Bowl LVII in 2023, and other ads and sponsorships have shown up at Major League Baseball games and NASCAR races.
The group that made the ads says it wants to reach as many people as possible.
A campaign spokesman told The Associated Press, “One of the main goals of ‘He Gets Us’ is to try and invite everyone, no matter what they believe, to look into the story of Jesus.” “The Super Bowl audience gives us the best chance to reach the most people.”
When the first ads came out, the people in charge said they were part of a multibillion-dollar campaign to get the word out over three years.
The people and groups behind the ad campaign support religious and political views that are seen as conservative.
The “He Gets Us” campaign began in 2022 and was led by The Servant Foundation, also known as The Signatry. This is a donor-advised fund based in Kansas whose mission is “To inspire and facilitate revolutionary biblical generosity across generations to solve the world’s greatest problems.”
Alliance Defending Freedom is a conservative law group that helped overturn Roe v. Wade in 2022. The Servant Foundation has given money to them.
The group’s supporters are mostly unknown, but Hobby Lobby CEO David Green gave it money. In 2014, Green’s company won a Supreme Court case by saying that the Affordable Care Act did not require them to cover birth control because of their religion.
In the meantime, a new charity called Come Near has taken over the ad campaign. Rolling Stone was the first to report that David Green’s son Mart is on the board of Come Near.
This year’s election conventions and the upcoming Olympics in Paris are just two of the big events that Come Near says it will show more ads during.
