Copa America 2024 is starting to feel real now that the draw is over. The South American championship event comes to the USA for the second time in four years. But this is a standard competition, not the one that was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary in 2016. There are some very interesting games in the Copa America 2024 groups. This is how things work:

2024 Groups from Copa America

For the first part of the challenge, the 16 people who signed up are split into four groups of four teams each. All together, each team will play every other team in its group three times. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from each group will move on to the quarterfinals of the playoff round with one elimination.

Group A

Argentina, Chile, Peru, Canada, or Trinidad and Tobago

Argentina, who are currently the best team in South America and the world, is, of course, the main attraction here. You can expect Leo Messi and his team to easily make it to the knockout stage, no matter how much the ageing but still magnificent star helps. 15 Copa wins between Argentina and Uruguay is the most ever. Peru and Chile, on the other hand, only have four. Chile, on the other hand, won both of their games in 2015 and 2016, so they won’t be easy to beat. The winner of the CONCACAF playoff spot will definitely have the hardest road ahead of them. Of late, Canada has been getting better, and T&T have been a threat in the past, but you have to think it will be tough for the North American guests.

B Group

Jamaica, Mexico, Ecuador, and Venezuela

The chances are better in Group B, which has two teams from CONCACAF. Mexico is likely to make it to the quarterfinals, and then the race for second place should be very close. Neither Ecuador nor Venezuela has ever won the Copa. They have never even made it to the final. On the other hand, Mexico has come in second place twice as a guest team. If the Reggae Boyz and Mexico made it through, it would be a big deal for the North American teams at the competition.

The C group

The United States, Uruguay, Panama, and Bolivia

Don’t get it wrong: the US should get out of this group if they play the way they should on home grounds. If they don’t, we need to ask them some very important questions. Another team that is likely to make it to the next round is Uruguay, but don’t count out Panama. At this year’s Gold Cup, they came in second place. In CONCACAF games, they always play tough. Bolivia has only made it out of the Copa group stage once in the last nine tries. After six games, they are currently in ninth place (out of ten) in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying.

Group D

Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Costa Rica, or Honduras are in Group D.

Brazil and Colombia must be the top two teams in this group, right? There have been stranger things happen. Either Costa Rica or Honduras will be tough opponents, and fans from both countries always show up to games in the US. Colombia has done pretty well in recent events. Since 2011, they’ve made it to the knockout stage every time and finished third in 2016 and 2021.
