The Argentinian Football Association got some bad news. FIFA said that they will start looking into what happened at the awards ceremony after the Qatar 2022 World Cup final. Images of the celebrations were all over the news, and Emiliano “Dibu” Martinez, the best goalkeeper in the tournament, was trending on Twitter for several days because of the “unique” way he accepted his award.
FIFA says that La Albiceleste may have broken a number of rules, including ones about player misconduct, offensive behaviour, fair play, and Media and Marketing. If the AFA is found guilty, it could have to pay a big fine.
What rules of FIFA could Argentina have broken?
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against the Argentinian Football Association because of possible violations of articles 11 (Offensive behaviour and violations of the principles of fair play) and 12 (Misconduct of players and officials) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, as well as article 44 of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM Regulations in conjunction with the Media and Marketing Regulations for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022TM, during the Argentina vs. France.

Germany was fined for covering its mouth.
The German national team was fined 10,000 Swiss francs ($10,783) during the World Cup for breaking article 44 of the Qatar World Cup rules. Their players covered their mouths in the pre-match photo before their group game against Japan. This was a response to FIFA denying their request to use the “One Love” captain’s armband, which was another of the tournament’s most striking images. The German was fined, though, not because of that. Instead, it was because he didn’t send a player with manager Hansi Flick to a press conference before a game. The fine that Argentina might have to pay could be as much as double what Germany had to pay.
