You’re ready to watch “Monday Night Football,” but there’s no NFL game on?
In fact, this is the first week of the 2023 season when there isn’t an NFL game on Monday night.
Late in the normal season, the NFL usually takes over most of the national TV attention. They play prime-time games on Thursdays, Sundays, and Mondays, and after the college season is over, they play games on Saturdays.
Fans get used to watching NFL football four days a week, but during the last two weeks of the regular season, they have to give up Mondays.

Why isn’t ESPN showing the NFL game tonight?
Because of the College Football Playoff playoffs, there is no Week 17 “Monday Night Football” game on ESPN on January 1.
When ESPN shows a pair of CFP games on Monday, January 1, the NFL will step back and let the next generation shine. Alabama and Michigan play in the Rose Bowl at 5 p.m. ET. At 8:45 p.m. ET, Texas and Washington play in the Sugar Bowl.
In Week 17, the NFL played one game on Thursday, one game on Saturday, and 14 games on Sunday.
In Week 18, there will be no “Monday Night Football” game because the College Football Playoff Championship is on Monday, January 8. The programme will stay the same.

This season, is there going to be another “Monday Night Football” game?
The first round of the NFL playoffs will start on Monday, January 15, and “Monday Night Football” will be back on ESPN.
The NFL’s first Monday night playoff game happened in 2022, when the Rams beat the Cardinals in an NFC Wild Card game. The Rams went on to win the Super Bowl.
Last year, when the Cowboys beat the Buccaneers in another NFC Wild Card game, which would be Tom Brady’s last NFL game, it continued the trend of loud support.
This season’s “Monday Night Football” playoff game has not yet been set.
