The mess with Lionel Messi and the 2021 Ballon d’Or
Reports from Le Monde say that Nasser Al Khelaifi wanted to have a good relationship with Pascal Ferre so that Lionel Messi would win the Ballon d’Or in 2021.
They were in a tough race at the time, especially since Robert Lewandowski was having a great season with Bayern Munich. Jorginho was also a strong choice because he was a big part of Italy’s win at the UEFA Euro 2021. The fact that Messi won the Copa America in Brazil was his main point.

Messi won the award for the seventh time in his career, getting 22.82% of the votes. John Stones came in second with 21.59%, and Jorginho came in third with 17.12%.
