Angel Yin beat Lilia Vu, who was placed number one, on the first playoff hole to win the Buick LPGA Shanghai tournament on Sunday. It was Yin’s first win on the LPGA tour.

Both Yin and Vu ended with a score of 14-under 274 on the Qizhong Garden Golf Club course, which meant there had to be a playoff. Yin made a birdie at the par-4 18th after Vu missed her 20-foot birdie putt.

After 159 starts, Yin, who is 25 years old, won her first race. She celebrated with a warm hug from her fellow countrywoman Vu. Vu beat Yin in a tie earlier this year to win the Chevron Championship, an LPGA major. This was also a way for to get back at her.

“Winning is hard. “Thank you very much,” Yin said. “To be honest, 18 that bunker where I was, anything could have happened. I was lucky to have a good lie and hit a good shot, and that’s how it turned out.”It’s been a wonderful week.

Yin and Maja Stark were tied for the lead at 12 under overnight. On Sunday, Yin shot a 70, with three birdies and one mistake on the sixth hole.

Yin birdied the par-5 17th and then made par on the last hole to force a playoff. Vu had a 4-under 68, which included six birdies and two bogeys. He was the leader in the clubhouse at 14-under.

Vu said, “To be honest, I made a lot of mistakes today, and I didn’t feel like I was on my A-game at all. But I knew that the more I played golf, the better I get at it, and I thought I had a good chance today.” Angel had a great day today. I’m glad for her.

Hye-jin Choi of South Korea tied for third place with a score of 64; Pavarisa Yoktuan and Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand with a score of 70; and Yu Liu and Esther Henseleit of China with a score of 68.

That was a bad day for Stark. She tied for eighth place with a 12-under 276 after a round of even par.

Former winner Danielle Kang of the United States shot 71 and tied for 17th place with 9 under. She was five strokes behind.

The event is the LPGA’s first trip back to China since 2019 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is also the first of four tournaments in Asia that will take place in South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, and China.
